What I learned from Simplifying My Wardrobe

Have you ever felt like you walk in to your closet only to walk about thinking, what in the world am I going to wear?! Y’all, this happened to me way to often and my closet wasn’t lacking any options! About a year ago, I felt a shift in my view of the things that I own (and how it was owning me). I began with Maria Kondo method (remember when that came out on Netflix) and started really looking at each item I own and deciding if it really brought me

joy.

I soon realized that the “stuff” that was filling our home wasn’t bringing me joy, but it was in fact bringing me stress! I had to figure out how to manage all of our things while raising three babies - and trying to do it all left me exhausted. It’s then that I made the decision to truly be more cognizant of my purchases as well as what stays in our home.

What started as a project to simplify my wardrobe turned into a lifestyle change that has allowed me to simplify our entire home.

I’m not saying that the things you own are excessive, I think everyone has to figure out their balance on their own. What brings me joy, isn’t necessarily what is going to bring you joy, and thats okay - this is what makes us individuals!

My closet is now filled with staple items that can be worn seamlessly together. Before making a purchase, I make sure to come up 3 (or more) ways that the item can be used with my current wardrobe pieces.

Three things i’ve noticed since making the change//

  1. I have reduced my purchases both on clothes and home decor.

  2. My wardrobe is the smallest it has ever been, but I feel more excited to create new looks each time I get ready!

  3. Our home is filled with less, but it hasn’t changed our happiness. Some times Less really is More!
